New Arrests Target Student Activists

(23 July 2008) Security and intelligence agents are engaged in an extensive campaign of arbitrary detentions targeting student activists around the country, the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran said today.

During the past two weeks, the authorities have detained more than twenty students, seventeen of whom remain in detention. These detentions coincided with the anniversary of massive student protests on 8 July 1999.

Former Student Detainees Terrorized by their Interrogators

(16 June 2008) Security and intelligence agents are regularly contacting and terrorizing nine former student detainees with threats of prosecution under the charge of apostasy that can result in execution sentences. Groups Urge Iran to Cooperate with UN Rights Bodies

(Geneva, 6 June 2008) – The Iranian government should cooperate with United Nations human rights bodies in order to address the ongoing human rights abuses in the country, a group of international human rights organizations said today.

The Iranian government’s refusal to implement recommendations issued by various UN human rights agencies are of grave concern to Nobel Peace Prize Winner Shirin Ebadi, Human Rights Watch, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), and the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran.

Judiciary Must Review the Sentencing of Ehsan Mansouri, Majid Tavakoli and Ahmad Ghasaban

(20 April, 2008) The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran is appealing to the head of Iran’s Judiciary, Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, to review the sentencing by an appeals court of three students, Ehsan Mansouri, Majid Tavakoli and Ahmad Ghasaban to prison terms.

Police Attack Shiraz University Seminar after Days of Student Protests

UPDATE: (15 March 2008) On March 11, Iranian authorities released four students detained on the previous Sunday during the violent police attack. The detainees were held at the Intelligence Ministry’s detention center in Shiraz. Special Forces beat the students as they detained them, but during the detention they were not subjected to physical abuse.
