Twelve Years in Prison for Human Rights Activist and Banned Student
Following the trend of heavy prison terms for human rights activists and prisoners of conscience, Branch 26 of Tehran Revolutionary Courts, with Judge Pirabbasi presiding, sentenced Navid Khanjani, a student banned from continuing his education, to 12 years in prison and cash fines. Khanjani, who was deprived from continuing his education because of his civil activities, had previously been served with a ruling which banned him from traveling abroad. The human rights activist is only 24.

A shocked and emotional Banafsheh Nayebpour, daughter of Iranian-Dutch citizen, Zahra Bahrami, who, according to a Fars News Agency report, was executed in the early morning hours of Saturday, 29 January 2010, talked to the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran today. She said people have been calling her for the past hour to verify the news of her mother’s death. “How is such a thing possible? We had requested clemency, and we have not yet received a reply. They have not reviewed my mother’s other case, either. How is it possible that she was executed?” she said in disbelief.
Lawyer In Shock Over Dutch-Iranian Client’s Execution: “Her Investigation Was Not Yet Complete”
Just a few days ago, in an interview with the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, Zahra Bahrami’s daughter denied all drug-related charges leveled against her mother. However, a few hours ago, Fars News Agency reported of the execution of the Dutch-Iranian prisoner. The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran was able to contact Bahrami’s lawyer, Jinoos Sharif Razi in Tehran a few minutes ago; Sharif Razi was not aware of the execution. “I am shocked. I was absolutely not informed about this. They should have informed her lawyer of the execution, but I had no idea. I don’t know what to say. Just that I am shocked,” she said.

A Fresh Round Of Pressure On Mostafa Tajzadeh,” Reports His Wife
Mostafa Tajzadeh’s wife was recently able to visit with him after he was banned from having visitors and making telephone calls for 56 days. In an interview with the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, his wife, Fakhrolsadat Mohtashamipour reported of increasing abuse and pressure on the prisoner of conscience. “It appears they have transferred someone to Mr. Tajzadeh’s cell, who has a few problems. When I asked my husband about him, all he said was ‘God willing, he will heal him,’ and he did not explain further. I am concerned about who is next to my husband and how he is dealing with this. I think they want to use different ways to weaken Mr. Tajzadeh’s morale, but most likely, they will not succeed, because he endured four months in solitary confinement with all that pressure, and he was able to maintain his spirits, so the new games won’t be able to make a change in his spirits,” she said.
