Two Women’s Rights Activists Get Six Months in Prison for Signatures
An appeals court upheld the sentences of Maryam Bidgoli and Fatemeh Masjedi who are women’s rights activists and members of the One Million Signatures Campaign. Bidgoli and Masjedi will now begin serving sentences of six months in prison and will pay fines of $200 in cash in the coming days.

Student Activist Faces New Charges in Prison
Student activist Mahdieh Golroo’s husband told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that Golroo, arrested in December 2009 and currently at Evin Prison, has been informed of new charges against her. “I do not know how someone who is in prison could disturb public order! It’s amazing! Nowhere in the world would someone, whose court ruling has been issued and is serving her sentence, be informed of new charges. What could she have done to disturb public order from inside the prison?,” said Vahid Lalipour, the Student activist’s husband.
“The Authorities Did Not Inform Us Of My Father’s Execution,” Says Ali Saremi’s Daughter
Zeinab Saremi, daughter of Ali Saremi, who was executed in Tehran’s Evin Prison on Tuesday morning on the charge of moharebeh, enmity with God, told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that Iranian authorities had not informed the family of her father’s impending execution, and that the family had been alerted about the possibility of the execution through Saremi’s cellmates at Rajaee Shahr Prison, whereupon the family had rushed to Evin Prison. According to Saremi’s daughter, who was still outside Evin Prison Complex at the time of interview, even his attorney was not aware of his time of execution.
Executions Of Two Prisoners At Evin Prison
A few hours ago, the Islamic Republic News Agency announced executions of two prisoners, Ali Saremi, an alleged member of the Mojahedin-e Khalgh Organization (MEK), and Ali Akbar Siadat, referred to as “an operative of an espionage service,” on Tuesday morning. Their charge was moharebeh, enmity with God.
Latifi’s Execution Postponed To Review Family’s Appeal For Clemency
In an interview with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s News Agency, IRNA, Saleh Nikbakht, lawyer of death row prisoner of conscience Habibollah Latifi, whose execution was postponed at the last moment, said that the execution orders were stopped to review the family’s appeal for clemency, as well as the lawyers’ request for a postponement. The lawyer did not comment on the arrests of Mr. Latifi’s family members.

The trial court of lawyer and human rights activist, Nasrin Sotoudeh, held on Monday, December 27, 2010 on the new charge of “lack of hejab,” was stopped due to Sotoudeh and her lawyer’s objections to the manner in which the court was held. The judge found Nasrin Sotoudeh in contempt of the court and sentenced her to five days in prison. In an interview with the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, Reza Khandan, Sotoudeh’s husband, said that the trial could not be held as Sotoudeh did not respond to any of the judge’s questions.
Habibollah Latifi’s Family Arrested; Concern Over Impending Execution
Following news of postponement of Habibollah Latifi’s execution, an informed source in Sanandaj told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that several members of the prisoner of conscience’s family were arrested by security forces on Saturday night. Additional information indicates that certain individuals who had accompanied the family in pursuing a halt to Latifi’s execution have also been arrested.
Latifi’s Execution Halted Pending Further Review

Halt Student’s Execution, Review Torture Allegations
(25 December 2010) The Iranian Judiciary should immediately halt the execution of Habibollah Latifi, which is scheduled to take place on 26 December, and review allegations that his confession was coerced under torture, as well as numerous other irregularities in his trial including interference by security agents, the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran said today.
“No one seriously and objectively reviewing the facts could have any confidence in a guilty verdict and death sentence in the case of Habibollah Latifi,” stated Aaron Rhodes, a spokesperson for the Campaign.
