Pressure on Northern Iran Students Continues: 8 Prison Sentences Upheld

Student activists have informed International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that an appeals court has upheld the prison sentences for eight Babol Norshirvani University student activists. According to the court document, Mohsen Barzegar, Iman Sadighi, and Nima Nahvi have received sentences of 10 months in prison and one year’s deprivation of education.

Vahid Poorostad: Possibility of Release?

Vahid Poorostad, journalist, author, and lawyer who was arrested on February 9th, as so many other journalists and political activists who were arrested before the February 11th ceremonies, might soon be released with the stipulation of bail. A source who is in contact with Poorostad’s brother and close to the case, told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that Poorostad must refer to the Branch 3 Interrogation to arrange for his administrative legal paperwork.

Member of Ahmadinejad Entourage in New York is Suspect in Attack on a Young Woman

New York court has pressed charges against a man accompanying Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during his September 2009 trip to United Nation’s General Assembly in New York for assault in the second degree for attacking and injuring a young woman outside Ahmadinejad’s hotel. The suspect must now answer the court in this regard. According to an attorney such a charge could result in more than a year’s imprisonment for this individual.

After 8 Months in Prison and Pressure for Forced Confessions, Jahanbakhsh Khanjani Was Released

Jahanbakhsh Khanjani released on Wednesday

Jahanbakhsh Khanjani, former advisor to Iran’s Minister of Interior, was released on Wednesday night after spending more than eight months in prison, while according to one of the previously released prisoners, he was under pressure to confess and was constantly moved from general confinement to solidarity confinement.

Journalist Hengameh Shahidi Arrested

Hengameh Shahidi, a journalist who served four months in prison this summer and was released on bail on November 1, 2009, has been arrested and transferred to Evin again. Shahidi was active in Mehdi Karroubi’s presidential elections campaign.

Three Mashad University Students Banned from Education

A student activist at Mashad Ferdowsi University told International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that despite a petition signed by three thousand students at Mashad Ferdowsi University, requesting a reversal of the decision to deprive three students from education, the decision has been finalized. Orders for deprivation of education for three student activists, Arsham Damghani, Hossein Ghabel, and Fatemeh Vatandoust, have been upheld.

Mashad Student Activist Amir Sheibani Imprisoned for the Fourth Time since the Elections

In an interview with International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, a Mashad political activist has said that student activist Amir Sheibani has been arrested for the fourth time. Following the elections protests, Sheibani was arrested several times, once running away from the Ansar forces who had gone to arrest him at his home; he was eventually arrested. Over the past seven months, Amir Sheibani was summoned by the Revolutionary Courts, Ministry of Information News Headquarters, and other Mashad security forces, where he was repeatedly interrogated.
