Fear of Imminent Executions of Baha’is
Baha’i Community at High Risk as State Exploits Political Unrest
(7 January 2010) Iranian authorities have added new charges against 7 Baha’i leaders detained since 2008, under which they could be executed if convicted, and have arrested at least 12 more members of the religious minority, while desensitizing the Iranian population with propaganda campaigns against the Baha’is, the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran said today. In news reports broadcast nationally, commentators have claimed that recent Ashura demonstrations were masterminded by Baha’is, although no evidence has been produced to support the accusations.
“Iran and the world are again confronted by the specter of Bahai’s being executed, this time on charges trumped up in the context of current widespread political unrest,” said Aaron Rhodes, a spokesperson for the Campaign.
Since Ashura (27 December), Baha’is known to have been arrested include Jinoos Sobhani, Leva Khanjani, Babak Mobasher, Payam Fanaian, Nika Hoveydai, Mona Hoveydai, Artin Ghazanfari, Farid Rohani, Ahmad Rohani, Negar Sabet, Ebrahim Shadmehr, and Zavosh Shadmehr.
The seven Baha’i leaders arrested in the spring of 2008, Fariba Kamalabadi, Jamaloddin Khanjani, Afif Naeimi, Saeid Rezaie, Mahvash Sabet, Behrouz Tavakkoli, and Vahid Tizfahm, are due to stand trial on Tuesday, 19 January. The charges in their cases have been expanded since their arrest and now include those that can carry the death penalty.
“Given the totally unjustified executions of two national Baha’i leadership groups that took place in the early 1980s, and the inciting rhetoric of the government against Baha’is following Ashura, there is a real concern for the lives of the Baha’i leaders about to be tried,” Rhodes said.
More than 200 Baha’is have been killed by the State following the Islamic Revolution of 1979. Thousands more have been arrested, harassed, surveilled, dismissed from their jobs, or had their finances and property confiscated by the government. Baha’is are prohibited from holding government jobs and their children are not allowed to attend university.
The Campaign calls on the international community and organizations to condemn the actions of the Islamic Republic against the Baha’i community, to release all Baha’is who have been arrested because of their beliefs, and to cease its targeting of Baha’is throughout Iran.

I am an Iranian, and the government has left nothing for us but shame.
I am so sorry and sad for all Iranian, for our pas culture which now is completely ruined, especially I feel sad about those who are NOT free due to their beliefs.
and even the God does NOT do anything about these . . .

Do not despair, Hossein. Fear not. As a Baha’i, I believe God did give the answer. The answer is what Baha’u'llah brpought. He works through people who hear and live His message. There is always the struggle of the old ways, entrenched and fearful of the new., If you know the Qur’an, the Sura of Hud will suffice. While Baha’is will do everything possible to bring the plight of the Baha’is of Iran to the world’s attention, we are not afraid of imprisonment and death. The oppressors are the losers. In this situation, even or odd, those of true understanding will win the wager, God loves not the oppressors; they will receive from God what their own hands have wrought. He will deal justly and none shall be wronged.

To any intelligent person who has understood one’s own religious history it should have been clear long ago that “the tree of religion is watered by the blood of martyrs” and it is counterproductive to kill in the name of religion. Irreligious people, while paying lip service to their faith through self-flagellation before TV cameras,by their acts however, follow their true exemplar Yazid and spit in the faces of Hussein and Hassan .History also teaches that Allah is not deceived by hypocrisy, nor is His wrath dispensed in “half measures”, but always in full perfection leaving no trace of His enemies — be they the priests of Pharaoh or Caiphas or Abu Jahl or Muhammadan mullahs — but always ,repeat always, Allah’s eternal wrath is reserved for THE PRIESTS the true corrupters of God’s Message in every age and responsible for leading peoples astray by inciting brother against brother and nation to destroy nation, all for the sake of holding on to their earthly power and pelf wholly indifferent to the warning, that all the while Allah, in Whom they never had any faith, is patiently stoking for their arrival the “hell fire” ,which God has created for no other purpose but for the clergy, for it the clergy which keeps the followers ignorant and superstitious, mesmerizing them by their different hued apparel and head-ware like uniforms of army officers, to goad the dumb masses to slaughter and destroy by regarding God’s creation of one humanity, like different species of animals thus making His earth into a jungle. For humanity to be united and in peace the clergy must disappear. And it will.
A Baha'i from Iran
I’m happy to see that world is awaken. Since the beginning of the world many people have suffered from cruelty but nobody have heard of their life story. Now we are leaving in the world of unity and love. No matter how the area around us is suffering from enemies of humanity, we can feel kindness and justice from who are connected to our hearts from the other side of the world.

To divert attention from their own savagery, the clerical hierarchy in Iran have historically chosen the Baha’is as scapegoats. One hopes that the intelligent and educated Iranian population have the foresight to realize the deviant methodology used by these hypocrites and recognize them for what they truly stand for.
The recent elections by this group speaks for itself.
Unfortunately, the cure for bigotry, fanaticism, belief in daemons and gargoyles, sex in afterlife, hatred for humankind, belief in murder and butchering one’s brother and hatred for those have different beliefs is the cornerstone of those who rule Iran.
I ask the cultured Iranian people to wake up and dismiss these virmins.

In the past, iraniens have always accused the baha’i community of every bad thing was happening there. After 30 years of Islamic Republic, they begin agin accusations towards this community. I am asking all these people, what do you gain by accusing innocent people? Do you think if you kill all baha’is in Iran, your country will become paradise? What has gained Hitler by killing jews? What will you achieve by killing innocent people? Do you think really by killing innocents, Islam will become the future of humanity?
Open your eyes and your hearts. Bahaullah said: in the hearts full of hate, the light of love can not penetrate.

Dear Friend Hossein,
Thank you for your sympathetic words. Baha’is know Iranian people do not condone or support state directed persecution of Baha’is. God DOES do “something,” He gives faith to the people being held prisoner. The Founder of the Baha’i Faith, Baha’u'llah (an Iranian), was a prisoner for 40 years. Now 166 years later people all over the world call joyfucall lly themselves “Baha’i.” This terrible time in Iran will not last, the persecutors will hasten their own doom. I have enormous respect for the Iranian people who have shown such incredible restraint and dignity in the face of horror.
“Armed with the power of Thy Name, nothing can ever hurt me and with Thy Love in my heart all the world’s afflictions can in no wise alarm me.” – Baha’u'llah

i simply can not explain my feelings, it’s more than barbarous.
Isn’t there any way to protest against internationally, may be with the help of “Amnesty International ” or and kind of Institutions? There must be some way out and also to stop this kind of thing happening against the Bahá’ís in Iran. May God have Mercy upon them !

I am an Iranian who left the country because of the religious persecutions many years ago. Many official documents of the Iranian government has already been published showing that in the last thirty years there has been an official plan to do what it takes to destroy and remove any signs of the existence of the Baha’is in Iran. This plan has seen an action increase during the time that Mr. Ahmadinejad took over.
In the last few months they have created a whole organization dedicated to create misinformation and lies in order to soften the mass population’s sensitivity towards these actions. In recent news we have seen Baha’is be portrayed as anything and everything that are not considered acceptable by the society. I have read about the Baha’is being the masterminds behind the demonstrations, or reporting that they confiscated guns from the Baha’is homes, or that Baha’is are allowed to have sexual interactions between fathers and daughters, … etc. etc. Anyone who rises against the actions of the government are accused of being a Baha’i…
There is no end to the number of lies that are propagated by IRI. The people of the world need to raise their voices against these actions. We can not afford to go down the history as the ones who didn’t care.

Since the beginning of time, man has a history of violent and inhumane treatment of fellow human beings that has been masked behind fanatic exploits or religion and spirituality. Through man’s ignorance, the truth continues to prevail as we are all cut from the same cloth. Someday the Iranian government and anyone else who has supported unjust acts against another will have to face the reality that there selfish and pointless efforts will not succeed. I am a descendant of African Slaves, of Native Americans, and of love that Abraham, Krishna, Moses, Zoroaster, Buddha, Mohammad, Jesus, The Bab, and Baha’u'llah stood for as “Divine Teachers”. The truth that we shall overcome someday.
No society or government can withstand the test of time with such dastardly internal politics and strife institutionally sanctioned and implemented. Inevitably huge bubbles of pressure build up among the factions within whether or not these factions suffer or dole out the abuse. False acusations against a totally disdmpowered group – the Baha’is – shows an extreme level of depravity which is going to pit every factionable group in Iran against the other groups. The certain result will be a catastrophic failure of the Iranian nation akin to Sebia/Bosnia in 1999. A house so grossly, violently divided and mean cannot stand. The message of the Baha’i Faith and indeed of Islam and all Religion is Unity, Peace and Love not this murderous tomfoolery now playing out. God is with these wronged fellow human beings and the horror of the mockery those in power have made of themselves will only haunt them forevermore. History it would seem is a subject the government of Iran is totally ignorant of.

I greatly applaud the comment of Jamshed K. Fozdar. An excellent analysis of religious history and the role which the clergy has played in it – needless to say, brilliantly written.

The Inquisition period of Islam will soon be over. The Golden Rule will be in place soon. No theocratic law can stop freedom of thought & action. The majority of people have always chosen their way of life, and subsequently their method of government. No one wishes to suffer under a repressive regime. There will be “the Most Great Peace”. God does not break His Promise which is His Covenant with us. When there are martyrs from the Baha’i Faith, there has always been increased activity & new believers worldwide. This has resulted in the Baha’is creating the buildings on Mt Carmel in Israel far faster than any previous religion has built its world center. In 165 short years, the Baha’is have created the “New Jerusalem” in Haifa. This past year saw over 80,000 Baha’is attend 41 conferences worldwide. None of the 300,000 could attend from Iran. The rest of the 6 million Baha’is worldwide are inspired by the reports, and there is no way this Iranian government can stop this new Faith. The Christian Inquisition had a better chance, and they had to back down. As a result, we had the Renaissance of knowledge & science of today.
May God forgive them as they no not what they do

Baha’is sacrifice for the well being of all and yet they bring peace and flowers, join us in prayers, thanks all.

This government is only making itself more and more rediculous by accusing innocent people. The Bahais love their country and do nothing but serve their country. Their religion is based on love and unity. It is one of their religious rules not to touch the gun otherwise they will not even be part of their organisation, yet the government claims to have found gun and weapons in their houses. There are millions of bahais in the world living in different countries and they are not all persians. How come that the persian government is so convinced that bahais in Iran are spys for israel?
when Bahaullah was sent to Akka, Israel didn’t even exist. How long are they going to kill and lie for their forceful existance?
How many more lies are they going to tell people? how many more innocent people are they going to kill? When the people of this regime including their leader talk on TV, one is really ashamed as there is no respect, no sympethy, no human feelings, no proper language, no faith, no spirituality, but only hatred and anger.

The leaders of Iran have no shame in blaming everyone but themselves for the situation they face. The stolen election is one example, more examples are blaming other religions, Britain, the US, Israel or anyone who is not their version of “muslim”. True God fearing people face immense persecution for the cheating regime to “save face”. China and Russia are of no help when they block actions against this dangerous government. The rest of the world MUST wake up to the crazy dictator and his supporters. We will all be in deep trouble if they are allowed to continue on their current path.

The Iranian women’s rights movement is the most vibrant social movement in Iran today. Having built an extensive grassroots base, Iranian women are campaigning to fight legal gender discrimination. The government routinely persecutes and prosecutes women’s rights activists.

Once again we withness the ugly face of Baseless Hatred, we must flood the desks of the aide organizations with pleas to assisst us in putting pressure on the Iranian government to cease and desist. Both as women and as human beings we must stand and be counted, whatever one human suffers in the name of baseless hatred we are diminished, we become less, we feel the ripples of sorrow that pour out from the souls of those killed for reasons without meaning. Never in the history of our earth have so many died because of race, creed or religious beliefs…and the historians call us sencient. Our voices must be heard, we must rise from our appathy and begin to realize that just because these fellow humans are far away from us in a land we know little about it is no less shattering. Here I sit this morning at the computer in a warm, safe condo facing the Pacific Ocean and yet my very soul screams out for justice for my fellow human beings. Do not sit idly by while others are punished because they do not hold the same convictions as their punishers, do not buy that second cup of Latte’ to assure your humaness that “all is right with the world”. No, stand and be counted, because of ordinary everyday human beings allow this type of situation to persist one day we will be the ones being erradicated as if we were well used and not longer useful lab rats. We, the common man, and woman must rise up in disgust. Today or tomorrow the Israeli’s will rain bombs down on innocent people in the Gaza because of the actions of the radicals that live amoung them…we have to make a stand, we must begin to see everyone, every single Human on this planet as precious, because if we don’t one day they will come for us and there will be no one left to defend us because we shuffled through our lives believing that some how we are above it all!
