Iranian-American Scholar Prevented From Filing an Appeal
(29 October 2009) Judiciary officials in charge of the case of Iranian-American sociologist Kian Tajbakhsh, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison for allegedly trying to overthrow the Iranain government, are refusing to allow his lawyer to file an appeal on his behalf in violation of Iranian law, the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran said today.
On 18 October, Tajbakhsh was sentenced to 15 years in prison by a lower court. According to the Iranian law, a defendant has 20 days to file an appeal. With only 10 days left for such an appeal to be filed, Judiciary officials have repeatedly refused to allow Tajbakhsh’s lawyer to file the required paperwork.
Release Iranian-Canadian Blogger after One Year of Arbitrary Detention
(28 October 2009) The Iranian Judiciary should release Hossein Derakhshan, a blogger who has been in detention without trial for the past year, as well as dozens of other political detainees held without trial, the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran said today.
“Derakhshan’s case is typical of the lack of justice and due process in Iran’s Judiciary. How can the authorities justify holding him for a year without even charging him or putting him on trial? He is another victim of the intelligence apparatus’ manipulation of the judicial process,” said Hadi Ghaemi, a spokesperson for the Campaign.

Iranian–American Sociologist Sentenced to 15 years
(20 October 2009) The Iranian Judiciary should rescind a 15-year prison sentence issued against Kian Tajbakhsh, a dual national Iranian-American sociologist, and order an immediate review of his case and those of others on trial or already sentenced in bogus “show trials,” the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran said today.
Tajbakhsh was prosecuted along with over a hundred other defendants during the past two months in politically-motivated “show trials” that human rights organizations have condemned as lacking any due process or respect for minimum international standards of justice.
Urgent Call for International Pressure to Stop Wave of Child Executions
(19 October 2009) The international community should condemn in the strongest terms a wave of child executions underway in Iran, and raise the issue in current negotiations with Iran, the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran said today.
United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, who issued a detailed report on the grave situation of human rights in Iran on 13 October, should lead international efforts to persuade Iran to halt imminent executions of child offenders.
UN human rights chief criticizes latest execution of juvenile offender in Iran
In a press release, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, expressed concerns for the death sentences issued by the Iranian government. The text of the press release is as follow:
GENEVA – The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said Tuesday she was deeply dismayed to hear that another juvenile offender was executed in the Islamic Republic of Iran on Sunday, and called for changes to Iranian law and practice “to end execution of juvenile offenders once and for all.”
Three Sentenced to Death in Post-Election “Show Trials”
(11 October 2009) The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran condemned the sentencing to death of three men convicted for alleged activities in connection with political protests following the disputed 12 June presidential elections, and expressed its serious concerns about further political execution sentences.
On 10 October, Bashiri Rad, an official with Tehran Judiciary, told the Iranian Students News Agency that two men, identified by their initials as M. Z. and A. P., had been sentenced to death for their connections with Anjoman-e Padeshahi-e Iran (Kingdom Assembly of Iran), an opposition group based abroad.
