Withhold Recognition of Iranian Presidential Election Results
Danger of Extreme Violence—a “Tehran Tiananmen”
(13 June 2009) The international community should not recognize the results of Iran’s 12 June 2009 presidential election, which gives all signs of having been manipulated by government authorities to produce a massive victory for incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, according to the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran. The Campaign further recommended that the existing results be voided and new elections held in order to establish legitimacy.
As the Campaign reported earlier, the leading challenger to Ahmadinejad, Mir Hossein Moussavi, was informed by Iran’s Interior Ministry at 23:00 on 12 June that tabulated results showed him to be victor, and he was asked to wait on celebrations until Sunday.
A few hours later, the Ministry inexplicably reversed itself declaring a massive victory for Ahmadinejad. Iran’s religious Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, ignoring turmoil in the Ministry and rising protests, announced the victory and declared the process finished.
“The international community cannot accept such questionable election results, and should withhold recognition of these elections,“ stated Hadi Ghaemi, spokesperson for the Campaign.
“All must help the authorities understand that there will be no social peace in Iran and no credibility for the government abroad, without a re-run to discover which candidate actually deserves to govern,” he said.
At this time, Iran has been thrown into an unprecedented crisis of legitimacy. Thousands of Iranian citizens expressing their outrage, shock, and humiliation are facing the extreme danger of lethal violence at the hands of police and security forces in Tehran and throughout Iran.
“The stage has been set for a Tehran Tiananmen, in which massive violence will be unleashed in an attempt to intimidate the citizens from pursuing their dream of democracy,” Ghaemi said, referring to the 1989 massacre of many hundreds of Chinese pro-democracy demonstrators.
The Campaign called upon all of Iran’s partners in the international community to strongly denounce not only the election process, but the government’s violent attempts to quash legitimate protests.
The Campaign believes that a government can neither serve the Iranian people at home nor represent them abroad under the cloud of suspicion that exists at the present time. Only new elections, conducted with transparency, accountability, and with independent observers can rectify the situation. The international community must do its responsible part to bring about this solution by withholding recognition of the 12 June results.

Hi,
I was wondering if we (my friends and I) can make a petition together with you guys and ask Iranian people, both within or outside the country, to sign it. Then, we can send the petition to world leaders, asking them to reject the election results.
Thanks,
Sara

There is no Coup Detat. The Iranian people have finally realized they are run by a dictatorship that has a thin veneer of democracy. Now that dictatorship has finally decided to just quit lying to the people and demonstrate that it is truly in control.
The Iranian revolution was both a victory and a disaster, with one dictator replaced by another.
There is an online petition of a similar nature:

I’m not Iranian, but I have long been concerned with the injustices fostered under under the IRI. I agree with Sara regarding the creation of a petition. We must all demand justice in order to receive it.

What did you expect? Did you honestly expect that man to leave office? did you expect justice from the supreme leader? May Ibliss burn them both! This is a blasphemy against republics and republicans everywhere and it is time for the Persian people to arm and take back their nation!

Please cite the source about Moussavi being contact by Iran Interior Ministry other than a “Campaign” Reporter.
Where is the credibility?
This article is also inciting violence, especially an act that leads and implicates people to die. Where is the responsible journalism? And this is the “Human Rights” campaign? Where you tell people to riot and unleash massive violence that could kill a great number of people?
This site is a joke!!!!!

This is Coup!…He is not our president as we haven’t elected him……

Every few years Iran has a dog & a pony show called “election”, to keep people busy and amused. Does anyone really think elections mean anything? or Is that going to change people’s life, the answer is NO.

As a proud Iranian, and on behalf of millions of people in Iran who currently have no access to the media to speak up for themselves, and are in one of the worst life threatening situation in Iran, I condemn this large presidential election fraud and illegal interference with the process of Iranian votes by Iran’s Ahmadinejad who came to power 4 years ago as a result of a similar election fraud. I condemn the support of his fraud by one of the most dictators in the word Ali Khmenee (Iran’s non elected ultimate leader).
I am appealing to the world leaders and international human rights communities to refuse recognition of June 12, 2009 Iranian Presidential Election Results.

what happend was completely prospective; democracy never produce by Islamic government;
If USA doesn’t recognize Iranian elections, should we like to be hopefull whether Ahmadinejad be arrested within his first trip to USA (UN) or Europe ??

Analysts on CNN have expressed a concern about a coup de et at and the formation of a military government with the trappings of democracy (like Egypt). This is probably where Iran is headed with the present news. Someone mentioned that attacks on nuclear power plants are of concern and why Iran should continue on its current foreign and domestic policy. I would submit that building nuclear power plants on active fault lines in a seismically active region could be of far greater concern, a concern that make Chernobyl look like an infant.

It’s “coup d’état.”

To the people of Iran, your voices have been heard. Trust me when I say this is the beginning of the end for Ahmadinejad and his regime. Stay strong and continue to speak out. As an American, I admire your courage. May God be with you.
Professor Azar Nafisi stated in Al Jazeera interview:http://english.aljazeera.net/news/middleeast/2009/06/2009613181040285185.html
“It was really amazing and interesting to see what Mr Mousavi chose as his platform to win. He didn’t just campaign against Ahmadinejad but against the very foundations of the Islamic Republic. The fact that Mr Mousavi risked his political career to take up this position suggests that a sizable number of the population don’t want what exists now.” This article highlights the power of incremental change, brought about by discussion of issues one person to another. Truth and Ideals are more potent than bullets though both have their usefulness. Do not be misled into assisting the further entrenchment of Theocratic power. Know your movement & own it. Iran’s Theocracy is facing social revolution and a repudiation of the underlying source of their continuing power. The dream of a caliphate is not a national dream, rather it’s a fading dream of ideologues. You can not force anyone to believe something, humans must choose to believe. That is God given volition.
Choose to use it in pursuit of truth.

Women’s Rights
The Iranian women’s rights movement is the most vibrant social movement in Iran today. Having built an extensive grassroots base, Iranian women are campaigning to fight legal gender discrimination. The government routinely persecutes and prosecutes women’s rights activists.
